Liu Linsheng’s views on Qing Dynasty Pian Wen in The History of Parallel Prose of China
Abstract: The History of Parallel Prose of China written by Liu Linsheng during the period of the Republic of China is a masterpiece in the study of parallel prose. It is a book of the history of parallel prose in the real sense in its clear outline of the development this literature form, exploration of the roots of it, detailed introduction of the features of it in various periods of development and specific analysis of its representative writers in different periods. It came to the conclusion that magnificence and rhetoric in style are the key to the appreciation of parallel prose. Researches on the development of parallel prose from this perspective of are rare, but this point is what we should learn most in our further research. In the 10th Chapter of this book, Liu Linsheng focused on the parallel prose in the Qing Dynasty, including the performance of parallel prose revival, causes of the revival and parallel prose genre and their characteristics. In particular, its pision of parallel prose genre had a profound impact on future generations in research on parallel prose in its reference meaning.

刘麟生《中国骈文史》论清代骈文
1918年，陈独秀《文学革命论》一文发表，号召推翻中国古代的“贵族文学”、“山林文学”、“古典文学”，在这种情况下，骈文研究却出现了兴盛的局面。尤其是二、三十年代，出现了孙德谦的《吹冰朝丽指》、钱基博的《骈文通义》、瞿兑之《中国骈文概论》、谢无量的《骈文指南》、金秬香的《骈文概论》、刘麟生《中国骈文史》和《骈文学》，还有蒋伯潜、蒋祖怡的《骈文与散文》等，这在中国骈文史上可以说是一个罕见的现象。刘麟生认为“骈文为我国独具之美文，有其光荣之历史，自不可不有专书以纪述之”，“骈文之在昔日，亦曾有其光明独立之史迹，时至今日，不可不为之作一综合的叙述”，“骈文之在吾国，与文化生活，有一种密切与特殊关系，其昔日演进事迹焉可忘耶”。（《中国骈文史》）民国时期一系列骈文著作的出现，反映了在古典文学淡出文坛之后一部分文人的“怀旧”心态。从学术史的角度来说，这是一个开创的时期。从刘麟生的《中国骈文史》中我们并不难发现其写作目的，即一方面在于总结骈文的发展，另一方面则试图通过对骈文的研究，揭示其给中国文化、中国人民生活所带来的影响。骈文在南北朝时达到鼎盛，唐朝时开始式微，后经唐宋古文的打击，宋、元、明三代的骈文以应和、颂德为多，作者少且作品格调愈来愈卑下。自清初到清末骈文创作重新出现了一定的繁盛局面并取得可观的成绩，后世称“骈文复兴”。前期如吴兆骞、陈文崧，中期如汪中、洪亮吉，后期如王闿运、李慈铭，或宗法吹冰朝，或步武唐人，百花竞放，盛况空前，演出了骈文史上有声有色的最后一幕。
