Abstract

周代宗法制下，在各诸侯国中，以国君为中心的公室统率卿族，即私家，形成一种大宗统治小宗的权力秩序。然而，到了春秋后期，由于卿族势力的膨胀，公室的统治权开始受到挑战，于是接连发生公室与私家的交锋。本文以“三家分晋”的史实为例，探讨以形成“三家分晋”为结果的公室与私家争斗的原因、状况、影响，以此从一个方面窥测春秋后期社会政治的变迁。
一 “公室”与“私家”
何谓“公室”、“私家”？学界一般认为公室指的是以诸侯国君为中心的诸侯家族，他们形成该国政权的核心。与公室形成一定区别的是公族，公族与诸侯国君有一定的血缘关系，公族包括“君统、公子之宗、别子之宗” ，公族人员一般与异姓贵族相对而言，包括近支公族和远支公族，它大于公室的内涵。所谓“私家”，指的是卿大夫，在春秋时期，有的国家卿大夫全由公族担任，而有的国家的卿大夫中则既有异姓、异氏贵族又有同姓公族，但晋国却相当的特殊，担任卿大夫的都是异姓、异氏贵族。总之，在正常的宗法制下，公室相对于私家是大宗，私家受命拱卫公室，服从并服务于公室的统治。
瓜分晋国的私家之一赵氏，“叔带之时，周幽王无道，去周如晋，始建赵氏于晋国” ，属于异姓宗族。在晋献公的时候，赵夙由于征讨霍国有功，被赐耿地，成为大夫。此后，赵氏宗族在晋国日渐兴盛，到了赵盾时，他成为了正卿，甚至可以主持国政，开始了在晋国的专权。而魏氏，“魏之先，毕公高之后也。毕公高与周同姓。武王之伐纣，而高封于毕，于是为毕姓。……其苗裔曰毕万，事晋献公” ，后来受封在魏地，以魏为氏，属于异氏贵族，之后在晋国渐渐根粗叶茂，变成强大的宗族。除了赵氏、魏氏等异姓、异氏卿族，还有另外一些显赫的大宗族如韩氏、狐氏、栾氏、郤、祁氏、羊舌氏等远支公族，他们也都身居卿大夫之职。对于晋国公室来说，作为卿族的赵氏、韩氏、魏氏等都是私家，扮演宗法制中小宗的角色，他们在初期为文护公室统治而征战，并在政治上协助公室，本本分分地履行着私家的责任和义务，文持着一种权力系统的平衡。
