The Sarcastic Techniques in Gulliver's Travels
Abstract: Swift’s Gulliver's Travels is an allegorical novel with a strong satire . The sarcastic techniques in this novel were very unique, but this paper mainly talked about some kinds of them that were the special usage of verbal irony and situational irony in the ironic figure of speech, the flexible usage of contrast in various forms and the artful use of the Britain mapping technique, which aimed at exposing and satirizing the decay of the ruling class and the darkness of society, reviewing and rethinking about the author’s humanity itself.
