3.2 AIIC Professional Standards
AIIC (International Association of Conference Interpreters) is the only global association of conference interpreters, which has promoted high standards of quality and ethics in the profession and represented the interests of its practitioners . Therefore, this paper sets the AIIC standards as the foundation.
According to AIIC standards, the conference interpreters must:
“ In consecutive, it is all the more important to be a good public speaker. Don’t forget to make eye contact with the audience, and make sure to project poise and confidence with your body language. All the principles of quality interpreting apply, with the additional requirements of the visual dimension and non-verbal performance factors.
Besides, professional capacities they have to gain are:
“ Have a pleasant voice and good diction,
be physically and mentally robust.”
3.3 Six Professional Standards For Conference Consecutive Interpreting
3.2.1 Frequency Of Eye Contact
The moderate frequency of eye contact with the audience in consecutive interpreting is of great necessity because the interpreter can better catch the audience’s attention and be aware of the overall situation from time to time. And eye contact with the speaker can give a sign to him in order to carry on with the speech. Through eye contact, the interpreter may get some feedbacks from the speaker and the audience and meanwhile make the whole process of producing smoother, more persuasive and polite (Dong Po, 2012: 30-31).
