青年奥林匹克运动会于2014年在南京举行,这是历史赋予南京的重大机遇,是南京向全世界展现新面貌的绝佳契机。而南京青奥会公示语是青年奥林匹克运动与南京这座城市文化交汇的品牌载体,更是青奥文化理念的高度概括和集中体现。而在翻译研究领域,生态翻译理论正以其跨学科的特点蓬勃发展。该理论从生态学的适应与选择视角对翻译进行整体性研究,为分析和解释很多翻译过程和现象提供了崭新的视角和依据。鉴于此,本文从生态翻译学角度研究2014南京青奥会公示语汉英翻译方法,分析译者从语言文、文化文和交际文等方面对翻译生态环境进行的动态适应性选择,旨在为公示语翻译提供一定的理论参考和实践指导。22976

Title  On Chinese-English Translation of Public Signs from Perspective of Eco-translatology---- A Case Study of Public Signs in Nanjing Youth Olympic Games
Abstract
The 2nd Youth Olympic Games will be held in Nanjing in 2014, providing a great opportunity for Nanjing to demonstrate her new image. Public signs of Nanjing 2014, integrating the spirit of Youth Olympic Sports and the city’s culture, highly summarize and illustrate idea of Youth Olympic culture idea. The theory of Eco-translatology comes out in a rapidly progress, which takes comprehensive study on translation from the perspective of adaptation and selection and provides a new perspective and a new basis for analyzing and explaining many translating processes and phenomena. Given that, this paper studies the C-E translation of public signs in Nanjing 2014 from the perspective of Eco-translatology and analyzes translators’ dynamic adaptation and selection in the translational eco-environment in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions, aiming to provide some theoretical reference and practical guide in the process of public sign translation.

1 Introduction
Public signs, open to the public and for reaching some communicative goals, have a significant impact on people’s daily life. With the deepening advances in Chinese reform and open up, most domestic public signs have both Chinese and English versions to accommodate to her pace of internationalization. Given the rising international status and the leading role in international affairs, people abroad are eager to know more about China, so the translation of public signs are of great importance.

The 2nd Youth Olympic Games(YOG or Nanjing 2014) will be held in Nanjing in 2014, providing a great opportunity for Nanjing to demonstrate her new image. Public signs of Nanjing 2014, integrating the spirit of Youth Olympic Sports and the city’s culture, highly summarize and illustrate the idea of Youth Olympic culture. Proper translation of public signs does good for Nanjing, even China to build a friendly and civil image to the world and strengthen her capability to propagandize. However, mistakes exist in many Chinese-English(C-E) public signs translations, such as linguistic errors, cultural loss and defective communication objectives. Consequently, tourists from abroad will be misled and puzzled by these mistakes or have a misunderstanding of China.
