Second, the English language teaching faces great challenges. In our traditional junior middle school English language teaching, the teacher is regarded as the authority and proselytizes instructs dispels doubt. Even some people think that the teacher is the fountain of knowledge, a walking dictionary or a walking encyclopedia. As we all know, in the traditional English classroom, the teacher always stands on the platform and teaches his or her lecture. Meanwhile, students stay in their seats listening to the teacher teaching and writing down key points. Not only do they have little communication, but without emotional interaction. Chinese vice Premier Li Lanqing ever said that “Chinese students learning English for a few years later, cannot use them smoothly in reading, saying, writing and speaking”. Today, with the economic development, students need more competence to utilize English. So it is urgent to improve students’ English.
Emotional Effects refer to a person’s emotional state that can affect the evaluation of one person in the future. As our country continues to deepen the education system’s reform, education, through science and education strategy, occupies the strategic position of priority development. In a report, “Learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be are the four pillars of learning and education must revolve around them” (“Education-the Treasure Within”, 2000: 75). In addition, it emphasizes the significance of the development of student’s emotion rather than the gain of cognitive content. Emotional effects are spoken highly of one of the most important methods of learning. The positive use of emotion is helpful to inspire students’ enthusiasm and initiative, develop students’ intelligence, and cultivate students forming a good learning habit. What is more important is that the positive emotion is conducive to improving the relationship between teachers and students and forming a good teaching and learning atmosphere to complete the whole process of junior middle school’s teaching smoothly.
II. The Current Situation of English Teaching in Junior Middle Schools
So far, the general English teaching is developing at an amazing speed. English courses develop rapidly, whose progress and achievement can be witnessed by Chinese people. But there are also many problems. On the one hand, we are the member of WTO. China is reaching out to the world and Chinese people should learn English very well to face the challenge from all over the world. On the other hand, our general English teaching also has some problems and English teaching situation is not going well. The main issues focus on the following questions.
