Abstract Up to now, Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre has over forty different Chinese translations among which Huang Yuanshen’s version is mostly popular among readers. Human communication is restricted by the language environment that has been rooted in cultural habits. Using a new language to express the other language needs to focus on cultural context, so the translation must be influenced by cultural context. This paper adopts the documentary analysis to discuss the influence of cultural context on Huang Yuanshen’s translation of Jane Eyre from the aspects of history, region, customs, religion and cognitive style of thinking etc. The author finally concludes that cultural context is closely related to translation. In translation, only accurately understanding ideas, beliefs, customs, values, etc. of other countries’ culture, translators can faithfully convey the value and spirit of indigenous culture and truly realize the transmission and communication of different cultures. Through the analysis on the influence of cultural context on Huang’s version of Jane Eyre, this paper can make translators fully consider the cultural context in translation so as to convey readers clear cultural information and make readers fully appreciate the charm of art equal to the original.

I. Introduction
Jane Eyre is an English novel that has an enduring charm in our country. Charlotte Bronte, a British woman writer of the19th century, created a female image with stubborn character Jane Eyre according to her personal experience. This novel tells about the theme of suffering, love, and growth. Due to its concise writing, beautiful language and vocal plots, the novel is praised highly by translators and litterateurs of all the countries. There are many versions of translation about this work in China, among which the versions of Huang Yuanshen, Li Jiye, and Zhu Qingying are the most popular. This paper will take Huang’s translation of Jane Eyre as an example, and specifically analyze the influence of the cultural context on translation, so as to let the translators consider the influence of cultural context on translation when they do translation work. At the same time, the author also tries to let the reader have a thorough understanding of Chinese and western culture.
