Abstract With the increasingly communication between China and western countries, Chinese and western culture are interacting with each other, so does festival culture. Western Valentine’s Day has a strong attraction to the younger generation of China, and it has evolved into a kind of fashion in China. From the perspective of intercultural communication, the paper analyzes Western Valentine’s day and traditional Chinese Valentine’s Day, that is, Chinese Qixi Festival. The paper to studies their differences in origin, customs and cultural connotations. The author of this paper hopes the young generation should attach great importance to the traditional festival of China while accepting Western Valentine’s Day, and they should spread out the excellent Chinese festival culture to promote multicultural communication and integration.

I. Introduction
In recent years, western festivals have entered China, such as Valentine’s Day, Christmas, Thanks giving Day, and so on. These western festivals are very popular among the young people. Valentine’s Day is especially popular in China, and it has great impacts on Chinese Qixi Festival. With the influence of western culture, Qixi Festival is becoming a Chinese Valentine’s Day gradually. This paper analyzes the similarities and differences between Chinese Qixi Festival and Western Valentine’s Day from different aspects, and the author of this paper hope young people realize that the difference between Chinese culture and western culture, besides, the author of this paper looks forward to the native pay more attention to the Chinese traditional culture.
Except the introduction and conclusion, this paper includes three parts. The first part of this paper discusses the different origins between two festivals, and it finds that the two festivals have different sources. The second part of this paper analyzes the two festivals’ interesting customs, and this part introduces the activities of Chinese Qixi Festival and Western Valentine’s Day. The third part of this paper compares the cultural connotation of Chinese Qixi Festival and Western Valentine’s Day, and it reveals the different cultural background of the two festivals.
