优秀作品中是需要笔墨的存在，它是一种艺术情感也作为一种技法。如何掌握好笔墨的关系，对于画家来说，是写意花鸟画中一个很重要的关键。在写意花鸟画中所谈到的“笔墨”，它不是用来塑造物体的形状而是通过比较动人的艺术语言传达出深刻的思想感情和一定的寓意在里面。什么是笔墨？在中国写意画中，笔墨是关于点、线、面的一个学问，它作为一个承载者存在于中国画的语言中。也被作为中国画技法上的总称。在理论上，强调的是笔为主导地位，墨随笔出，相互依赖、相互结合从而完美的描绘出物象。也是中国写意画技法上的总称。而在创作技法上，“笔”一般分为钩、勒、皴、擦、点等笔法。“墨”大致有浓淡、干湿、点染、皴擦、破墨、积墨等。笔与墨的有机结合、相互依赖，从而表达出醒目艺术效果和情感因素。
