一、“过去式“的“主题先行”
(一)古今人物画“主题”的典型
战国时期的《人物龙凤帛画》以写意手法画人物及龙凤，画的主题是一妇女，双手合掌做祈祷之状，表现的主题是“引魂升天”；国画人物画如东晋顾恺之《女史箴图》属于劝诫古代女性遵守妇德的作品， 《女史箴图》
属于劝诫古代女性遵守妇德的作品，画是根据西晋张华的文学作品《女史箴》创作的。画中线条流畅，富有美感。全图分为九段，描绘女子对镜梳妆等具有生活气息的情节，意在劝诫女子内外兼修，它的主题就是劝诫妇女遵守妇德；画圣吴道子《天王送子图》是佛教题材的绘画，佛教题材本土化，与中国文化相交融，画中人物如迎风起舞，重线条和用笔，具有“疏体”画的特征，吴道子在画人物画时在线条中加以淡彩，用笔用墨有着独特的韵，画的主题就是释迦牟尼降生，意在宣扬佛教;唐代张萱的《捣练图》明确的表达主题内容。 《捣练图》
描绘的是女子捣练的生活情景。全图分为三组，第一组捣丝，中间一组缝合，最后一组熨平。画面人物错落有致，生动富有生活气息，源于生活而又高于生活，它的主题就是劳动；中国十大传世名画之一《清明上河图》， 用精致的工笔记录了北宋末期汴河两岸人们的生活状况。画面描绘的就是普通市民的生活，反映的是时代的发展状况。采取的是传统的散点透视方法，画面布局有序，层次分明，它的主题就是汴京繁荣的市井生活。
传统的创作大都是根据神话故事、文学作品、生活实际创作的，绘画生动有趣，生活气息浓厚。
