Werner-Pfleiderer also exhibited the TR turbomixer (Fig. 4) for mixing dry and moist free-flowing materials,
such as soft and hard PVC mixes in particular. The high-speed rotor has several radial arms equipped with special
vanes turned in different directions and mounted on the top edges of the blades. The direction in which these vanes
are turned is determined by the function. For example, back-swept vanes set up axial currents required for an ex-
ternal mixing effect. Forward-swept vanes (following the direction of motion of the blade) hinder free flow of ma-
terial around the edge of the blade arm, thereby forcing the material to the bottom of the mixing chamber. The
material is thoroughly kneaded as a resuk, and plasticated by the heat given off.
The radial blades are connected by a spacer ring which carries several flat blades, thereby enhancing the
radial circulation effect.

pletes the mixing process in a conventional cylindrical drum
which executes a complicated rocking and tumbling motion
in three different directions at various accelerations. This
mixer is employed for blending medium-bodied liquids, dry
powdery materials, and for dissolving crystalline bodies in liquid.
