采矿的各个阶段，即从煤田勘测到挖掘终止，都会对环境产生一定的冲击，而且这些影响或许产生于各种大大小小的采矿操作中。这种冲击同样可能影响到自然物质——水，土壤和空气，还有人类的健康。近年来，公众的环境意识已经得到了极大的提高，积极地响应各种公众事件，而且非常热情地表达他们所支持的观点：采矿行为应当与环境保护相协调。
