Coherence in the Translation of Marine English

Ⅰ。 Introduction 

Oceans don't so much pide the world as unite it．Since the ancient times, oceans not only have provided a large quantity of supply for the development of human beings, but also play an important role in communication among countries。 Nowadays, under the circumstance where the world economic globalization carries further, as ships and oceans play an increasing role in international economy, every country pays great attention to ship and ocean engineering。 In recent years, China's shipbuilding industry has been greatly developed。 The commercial communication and technology exchange between China and foreign countries in shipbuilding technology field has become increasingly frequent。 Correct understanding and translation of the relevant literature requires the translators to learn the advanced technology in English countries。

Marine English can be sub-classified from scientific English which contains many professional terminologies and rigorous syntax。 It is an edge discipline between linguistics and marine industry, very practical and professional。 In general, if translators master the cultural knowledge of source language and target language and skills of translation, it is not uneasy to complete tasks of translation。 However, in order to be qualified for translation of marine English, translators should be familiar with professional knowledge, apart from the requirements mentioned above。 Meanwhile, Long sentences, passive sentences and negative structures are always used in marine engineering professional English。文献综述

Ⅱ。Literature review 

A large number of experts at home and abroad have done lots of researches on marine English or coherence of translation。 Some of the views are quite similar to each other and others go opposite。

In China, in the field of coherence, Huang Guowen(1988) defines coherence as semantic association in discourse。 Cohesion lies at the bottom of the discourse, by logical reasoning to achieve semantic connections。 It is invisible network of discourse。 Professor Hu Zhuanglin(1994) pointed that coherence involves multi-level, and the social symbol layer plays an important role in textual coherence。 Professor Zhang Delu(1994) has researched on coherence systematically and deeply。 He believes that coherence exists in various relationships between semantics and structure。 Coherence is one of the basic characteristics of discourse and a single to distinct discourse from non-discourse。 Zhao Chunyan (2002) proposed that translation in essence is a mapping of cohesion and coherence between source language discourses and target language discourses。 Cohesion - coherence is a measure in dynamic translation system。 (2002)Wang Dongfeng (2009) pointed that coherence is a multiple network relationship in his book Translation and Coherence。 In the field of marine English, Lan Hongjun(2005) pointed out that when translators translate marine English, it is essential to make semantics is equal to its style in his paper。 In the process of translation, translators should use the corresponding style to make the source language reappear according to the characteristics of professional literary form。 Not only is the fidelity of semantics maintained, but the formation of literary form is equivalent as well。 Qiu Daping and Liu Guangya(2012) analyzed the linguistic and style characteristics of marine English from the perspective of lexicon and syntax in his paper which pointed out the key points in translation of marine English。 

In foreign countries, there are a plenty of researches on coherence。 Halliday (1962), a British linguist, firstly proposed the concept of cohesion。 Cohesion and English written by Halliday and Hasan is recognized as a symbol of the establishment of cohesion theory by public。 There are five cohesion means: reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion。 The first four classes belong to grammatical cohesion, and the last one belongs to lexical cohesion, including reiteration, synonymy, hyponymy and collocation。 Windowson(1978) thinks coherence is a pragmatic concept and a relationship formed by illocutionary force of discourse。 However, Van Dijk(1977) regards coherence as a narrow concept of semantics。 Cohesion is a linear semantic relationship in discourse internal components。 Cohesion is the surface structure of the language and exists in a linear form in the language in discourse。来,自.优;尔:论[文|网www.chuibin.com +QQ752018766-
