This thesis will study human nature under power from the perspective of existentialism. The paper focuses on four parts. The first part is an exploration of the relationship between power and human nature. The theory of existentialism will be employed to analyze the relationship in question. With theoretical foundation laid in the first part, the second part is to explore how power distorts human nature through an analysis of main characters in the novel. Upon the analysis, the historical significance of the portrait will be revealed. In the third part, the thesis will center on a reflection of the influence of power on human beings in the real life. In the final analysis, a conclusion will be drawn about the research subject.
