1.3 The Definition of English Metaphor
Metaphor is a common phenomenon in human language ,everywhere in people’s daily life, the sense of languages as English idioms also contains a large number of metaphors. Therefore, metaphor study has important value in idioms. English idioms for learners to understand idioms. English idioms for learner to understand the history and the cultural connotation, enhance the leaner’s cognitive ability, thinking ability and language communicative ability have an important role.
Metaphor in English idioms metaphor in English idioms in three, according to the different theories can be pided into different categories, each kind of classification methods. And each one has his good points, but it is difficult to do everything. This paper will refer to Lu Guoqing(1999).
