Title: Translating Poetry in A Poetic Way:
The Artistic Conception Actualization in English Translation
of Yi’an Ci from the Perspective of Cultural Context
Abstract：
“Yi’an Ci”, also named “Yi’an Style”, is elegant and natural with fresh language, harmonious rhyme and sincere emotion. Li Qingzhao is an excellent female writer in Song Dynasty. She is a representative writer of Wan Yue School of Ci poems as well. She wrote Ci poems from woman’s state and her sensitivity gave Yi’an Ci unique artistic conception. When Yi’an Ci is translated into English, it is important to retain the characteristics of Ci Poems and convey the beauty of Ci Poems’ Artistic conception to English readers. So it is necessary to consider both the cultural context and the beauty of artistic conception reconstruction at the same time. After taking all the opinions of previous scholars into consideration, the author pided all the factors of cultural context affecting artistic conception reconstruction of Yi’an Ci into three categories: Culture-loaded words, Language Expression and Social Environment. The analysis started from point to entire area of Yi’an Ci, from words, sentences, passages to whole Ci poems. The author also concluded five methods in reproducing artistic conception based on the comparison of four English versions of Yi’an Ci, such as literary translation, footnotes, deletion and so on, and gave personal suggestions on artistic conception reconstruction: “translate poetry in a poetic way”.
