Title On Personality Changes of Three Generations of Godfather in
the “Godfather” Series and How They Balance Between Family
and Business from Role Conflict Theory
Abstract
“The Godfather” is a classic work on gangster family history, the author is well-known American writer Mario Puzo. The novel was published in 1969, mainly describes a special period between 1945-1955, the Italian immigrant family Corleone in times of hardship and struggle to survive. “The Godfather” series make great success,depending on the original novel, there are delicate dialogues, meanwhile the plot twists and turns moving, and what is more important is that its success in shaping the roles of three generations, including Vito Corleone, Mike Corleone and Vinson Corleone by a growing experience, human characteristics, interpersonal and other aspects of the narrative. Thus readers immerse in the novel. This paper tries to use the theory of role conflict to analyze the changes of godfather in personality , as well as how they grasp between family and career.

1 Introduction
Mario Puzo is a famous Italian-American writers in American , he made the immortal status on American literature through his own life experiences and tireless colorful school learning. “The Godfather” trilogy written by the well-known author has an impact on values and social awareness of a whole American generation.
1.1 Brief Introduction to The Godfather
As a famous work in contemporary American Literature, “the Godfather” outlines the bottom of society of the Italian-born residents in the United States. To make a living, those people formed underground organization which became social forces. In modern American history, the Italian-born residents occupied a very unique position, they came from Europe, but they had a very clear difference between the white American mainstream. Because of the exclusion of the mainstream social forces, they can only form a underground organization which linked with the American high society and even the Crown inextricably , thus they occupy relatively independent of social status. In this process, the gang especially among gang leader, has a very important role, and “The Godfather” series is about three generations of Godfather's growth process, although they represent gang forces, they strongly desired to become a member of the American high society and participate in American mainstream political life(Fu, 1996).
