1) Since it is a comparative study between two English versions, what are the differences between these two versions and how are these differences categorized?
2) From the perspective of cognitive translation, translation should be based on “two worlds” (the reality world and the cognitive world). Cultural differences maybe the most important differences between the author of Shui Hu Zhuan and its translators. Then what does translators neglect or fail to reveal in translation?
1.2 Significance of the Research
The present paper is significant in terms of cultural communication. Since the concept of global village has been put forward for so many years, the progress of spreading culture should be accelerated. Nicknames are usually culturally-loaded. With an insightful study of nickname translation, the present thesis will help to deepen foreign readers’ understanding of nicknames and promote cultural communication to some extent.
Apart from practical significance in cultural communication, this paper also attempts to analyze nicknames translation in Shui Hu Zhuan from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. By this process, this paper hopes to attract more attention to cognitive translation.
