文化视角下隐喻的英汉翻译探析

Abstract This paper studies the metaphor translation from cultural perspective. It studies the features of metaphor and the relationship between culture and metaphor, mainly studies the influences of cultural elements on metaphor. It introduces the main principles of metaphor translation and two strategies: domestication and foreignization. Then, it summarizes five translation techniques aimed at conveying cultural message in metaphor. They are literal translation, free translation, amplification, deletion and conversion. What’s more, it concludes some new methods based on cultural factors in the technique of conversion, namely replacing images of the source language metaphor, converting metaphor into simile, and rendering into idioms. The aim of the research is to find out the relationship between culture and metaphor, so that helps researchers and translators translate more accurately.

An Analysis on the English-Chinese Translation of Metaphor from the cultural perspective
I. Introduction
According to the contemporary views of metaphor, it functions not only as a figure of speech, but also as a cognitive device. Metaphor is a conceptual system to recognize new thing and understand an object thoroughly. From this respect, metaphor has become a necessary way to know the world. From this point, it is important to deal with the translation of metaphor. What’s more metaphor is influenced by cultural factors which deepen the difficulty of metaphor translation. It is certain to say that metaphor has become a study object of multidiscipline, and that people are more and more aware of the role played by metaphors in our daily life. So, we need to study on the translation of metaphor from the cultural perspective.
First, the paper focuses on the features of metaphor, the close relationship between metaphor and culture, and analyzes the influences of cultural elements on metaphor. Since these culture elements come down to every part of society, so translators should make more researches and translate them in a correct way.
