2.1 On the research of personality
This group of research mainly deal with the similarities and differences of the two characters’ personalities, focusing on their valuable spirit of rebellion against conventional forces. For example, Dai Feng's‘Disillusionment and Struggle —Image Comparison of Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre’(2006)pointed out that they have similarity in the life experience, personality, as well as their efforts to pursue love, but that they ended up with different fates. The author believed that the fundamental cause of the difference is that Cao Xueqin's works reflect an obvious sense of disillusionment, but that Charlotte Bront's works indicate her strong fighting spirit. Li Zhu's‘Miserable Lovers—Comparison of Images: Lin Daiyu and Jane Eye’(2004)held that the fundamental reason lies in the differences in the two characters of two people of different age, different living background, resulting in their outlook on life view of love is different. Zhang Tingting's‘Comparison of Jane Eyre and Lin Daiyu’（2007）think the reason affecting two character fate lies in the differences between eastern and western social system and culture. Zhao Li's‘Winged Bird Song—Talk about the Comparison of Jane Eyre and Lin Daiyu’(2005) believes that two people are both destitute orphans who have strong and precious spirit. Zhang Qiyun and Li Xiaohui's‘The Awakening of Female Consciousness in a Model of Love—Discourse Analysis and Character Recognition of Lin Daiyu and Jane Eyre’(2004) argue that the two women bear strong similarities, by analysing the awakening of female consciousness in the two characters. The authors also think that the important factors leading to different love results is the rational degree of women's pursuit of independence and equality. And Dong Liping's‘Exploration on Different Fates of Jane Eyre and Lin Daiyu’(2008)pointed out that Jane Eyre and Lin Daiyu serve as the good image of women who deserve praise. Different as their final fates, they are both the winners of the spirit.
