In fact, other writers also wrote the naturalism of Sister Carrie. Lu Jing (6) discussed the morality of naturalism. But Liu Xiaoyan (12) denied that the morality has an effect on naturalism, and he thought naturalism is influenced by environmental, genetic and chemical forces. Moreover, Norris (3) thought that the reality is the basis of naturalism. Even if many writers have studied the naturalism of Sister Carrie, they haven’t introduced the characteristics of naturalism in detail.
In my essay, I will introduce Sister Carrie from its plot and background. Then I will analyze embodiment of naturalism from influence of environment, control of desire, constraint of the rule of “survival of the fittest” and influence of genetic factors.
