1. Introduction
With the unremitting globalization and rapid advances in science and technology, the international communication and cultural exchanges have been developed. The cultural similarities and differences between China and the USA attracted scholars and researchers’ concern. Exchanges of different countries become increasingly frequent, however, the cultural differences of different countries leads to barriers to mutual exchange.
In recent years, as cultural and academic exchanges between China and American become more frequent, the cultural differences also emerge in the meantime. English learners’ cross-cultural communicative competence plays an important role in overcoming the obstacle and avoiding conflict. The evolving trend of economic globalization is a distinct characteristic of our time. By comparison of the different cultures and custom between China and the United States, a greater awareness of different culture can be cultivated. Intercultural communication gives us an insight into the areas we need to address or understand.The complexity and persity of international cultures proved: the success of intercultural communication, is not only a problem of language skills, but also involves many cultural factors. As a result, a successful intercultural communication in inpidualistic and collectivistic culture can be realized.
As is known to all, every child has his own birthday party. A child's birthday party is one of the most fun events of the year, not only for the birthday child ,but also for the parents. Parents usually plan and design a special, successful birthday party for their children. However, people with different cultural backgrounds have different ideas of their children's birthday party.
In this paper, the author makes a cross-cultural comparative study on children's birthday party between China and America. Understanding the differences between China culture and America culture, not only helps us and America cultural exchanges, but also helps us and the world. The thesis will go deep into the mind of people and the culture of the two countries by analyzing China and America children's birthday party. The thesis will present a special perspective for researchers who are interested in children's birthday party and different cultures of China and the United States.
