For Thoreau, nature has its intrinsic value and has even pinity and dignity. People can’t ignore the crisis of nature and rob or ravage natural resources for their own greed and avarice. Nevertheless, the whole world is facing serious environmental problems, we can’t help to ask ourselves the following questions, what should we do to deal with the relationship between nature and human beings? How to stop people from modifying natural original appearance? What attitudes should we take towards our lives when we are in different situations? This paper tries to find answers to these questions from Thoreau’s views on nature and life in Walden.
This paper is pided into three parts, introduction, body and conclusion. And the main body is branched into three chapters. Firstly, this paper is to explain the causes for going to the deserted Walden. Secondly, it narrates Thoreau’s ecological ideas about nature and life. Finally, it describes the troubles we are suffering from now and the feasible of Thoreau’s ecological ideas in modern society. This paper is to appeal people to realize the importance of environment and to lay emphasis on inner world. It persuades people not to see wealth and fame as whole of life. We should clearly know that protect environment is to protect ourselves, otherwise, to destroy it is to destroy mankind. Walking into nature and being a part of the beautiful nature, you will understand what we live for and what the truth of our lives is.
