摘 要音标学习与词汇记忆对中学生英语能力提高的重要性是不言而喻的。然而,大多数的初中生在单词的学习方面存在困难。本论文主要讨论音标对初中学生单词记忆的影响。本文作者通过观察法以及问卷调查法去分析初中音标教学以及词汇学习的现状。为此,结果显示出音标在词汇学习中扮演着非常重要的角色。最后,本文为教师在今后教学中科学地指导学生,真正提高学生的词汇记忆效率提出了可行性建议。希望通过本次研究,可以帮助初中生提高他们的单词记忆能力。40090

Abstract Both vocabulary and phonetic symbol play an important role in English learning. But most junior high school students have difficulty in vocabulary learning. This paper mainly discusses the influence of phonetic symbols on vocabulary memorizing of junior high school students. Then the author uses observation and questionnaire method to analyze phonetic teaching and Vocabulary learning in junior high school. Accordingly, it reveals that phonetic symbols play an important role in vocabulary memorizing. Then feasible suggestions are put forward for teachers to guide students scientifically to improve their efficiency in memorizing vocabulary in future teaching. Hopefully by studying this topic, can students improve their vocabulary memorizing ability.

I. Introduction
All the experienced English teachers agree that vocabulary is an important part of language teaching. Without a good memorizing of vocabulary, English learners can never make unfaltering progress in communicative ability. Many scholars who at work on researches on foreign language teaching hold the view that vocabulary plays an important role in foreign language teaching. As Lewis (1993) indicates, vocabulary should occupy a kernel position of language teaching, because “language consists of grammaticalised lexis, not lexicalized grammar”. Though vocabulary acquisition is a difficult and long-term task, the vocabulary memorizing is becoming a very essential task in the procedure of English teaching.
For a long time, due to many factors, English has always been a major problem that puzzles and restricts junior high school students to strengthen learning motivation. Especially the phonetic symbol and vocabulary are the two main reasons. Junior high school is a critical stage,where students start to learn English and lay the foundation for further study in the future. This stage, precisely these two issues are the two weakest links in students learning English. These two issues are seemingly independent, in fact, also have a close relationship. A correct understanding of its importance, properly handling the relationship between the two are of crucial significance, for helping to improve the students’ proficiency and motivation of English learning.
