Song lyrics are undoubtedly song’s soul and one of the literary forms, which present the feelings of different people from different countries. The lyrics really play a very important role in expressing people’s feelings and minds, etc. Thus, song lyrics translation is very important to a man to understand the songs and ought to be valued. Although, for some reasons, song lyrics translation has not aroused enough attention nowadays and seems to be put in a cold corner in the immense sea of literary translation. So, translators have to focuses on these problems.
Translation of English songs into Chinese to make sure that Chinese people, especially those who don’t know English very well to get a good way to understand English country’s history, economy, tradition, conventions, customs, and others that showed up from the songs. Translation of Chinese songs into English also can be a good chance of learning Chinese culture and society to those who don’t know China a lot. People in different languages can learn each other’s life by songs lyrics that has been translated. They have a new start to rethink people’s views and their values in different places contained in songs lyrics after they enjoyed them.
This thesis is pided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the research background, the purpose and significance and structure of the research. The second chapter is about different writing skills in Chinese and English song lyrics. The third chapter is the translation skills of English song lyrics. The fourth chapter is the translation skills of Chinese song lyrics. Chapter five is conclusion.
As mentioned above, this paper aims to carry out a research of translation strategies on E-C and C-E song lyrics. Above all, this paper takes a new field of songs translation, which tries to arouse people’s attention of this area.
II. Brief Introduction to English and Chinese Songs Writing Skills
2.1 The Difference of Culture Background between English and Chinese Songs
Language and culture are inseparable, and every culture has its own unique system. Every language as a cultural carrier shows the differences in value orientation, way of life, way of thinking and social norms, etc. So the nationalities of different cultural background have a big difference of thinking.
The first thing is, that Chinese and western cultural background is different, so do the way of thinking.
