Abstract As an ancient form, an excellent speech needs all the skills to help. The use of a variety of presentation skills is helpful to improve the charm of the speech and to enhance the overall effect of the speech. This paper takes Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” as an example, and introduces the characteristics of speeches, such as sociality, realism, artistry, comprehension, logicality, pertinence, and infection. Besides the tone, the person, the tense, the adjective and the trope contribute to the charm of the speech. Hopefully this paper will be beneficial to the improvement of English speech skills.

I. Introduction
Martin Luther King is the world’s youngest winner of Nobel Peace Prize, and he is also one of the civil rights leaders that be known to the entire world. One of his wonderful speeches, “I Have a Dream” is an excellent one.
Martin Luther King, a black priest, was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, the United States. He grew up in Harlem, which was accompanied with racism. He had a deep feeling of the dignity of the inpidual and bitterness of being a black. He took an active part in 1955 after receiving his doctorate, and then he struggled for the equal rights of the blacks.
In 1963, he organized Birmingham's blacks to struggle for the freedom and the equal rights, and on August 28th, 250,000 people gathered in Washington to Parade, denounced racial segregation, and called for equal rights for black Americans, these beginning the movement from south to north.
It is in front of the Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King made this exciting speech, “I have a Dream”, to the crowd. In his speech, he expressed his thought of non-violence and his longing for freedom and equality of justice. In a word, he made an indelible contribution to American blacks for equality rights and freedom. II. Theoretical Basis
Speech which is also called lecture, means in the public, for a specific problem, with sound as the main means and body language as auxiliary means, people fully express their opinions and ideas or clarify the truth.
It plays a convincing role. Speech is a kind of spirit of arts, focusing on the agitation and propaganda, the subject has a strong spirit of the times and it focuses on typical and distinctive.
Speech can be pided into three types: prepared speech, impromptu speech and debate speech.
Prepared speech is titled by others and the speaker speech is prepared. It contains two kinds of forms: the whole title propositional speech and half propositional speech. The whole title proposition speech’s topic is normally provided by the department of the organization. Half propositional speech means the speaker’s topic is a defined scope, and then the speaker develops their own subject in the scope. The main characteristics of propositional speech are targeted theme, content stability and structural integrity.
