People in China often advocate being friendly and kind to each other. Many writers appeal people to have kind behaviors in modern society through introducing evil humanity writings. That is to say that the evil human nature is the best topic of Chinese scholars writings. Over the past 20 years, most studies in China mainly discusses the evil human nature. The study of Lord of the Flies has been in dominance.
Under the driving of kindness, people will have self-promotion and it will also stimulate the progress of the society. However, under the guidance of evilness, people’s cruel behavior will make people fall. It will also make the society more indifferent. In the social life, therefore, we have to consciously develop the goodness and kindness in human nature and avoid presenting the evil side of human nature.
II. William Golding and Lord of the Flies
2.1 Introduction of William Golding
William Golding was born in 1911 in a southern England town. After graduating from the Oxford University, he worked as a teacher in an elementary school. Later, he had an experience of being an actor. After the outbreak of the World War II, Golding joined the royal navy. After the war, he began to write. His works performed much about the evilness of human nature. Lord of the Flies was his first writing. He became the 1983 literature Nobel Prize winner because of this work. Gradually, William Golding also became a famous British novelist and poet. His novels are rich in meaning. And these writings were widely good at describing classical literature, myth, Christian culture and symbolism. He used the narrative method of realism to write fable story, inherited the tradition of western ethics. The evil humanity was the theme in his articles. The novel portrayed the heart of darkness. It showed the author’s concern to the future development of the humanity.
British critic and writer Terry Pratchett said: “Golding is the most imaginative, original opinion writer”. And a Soviet critic points out that Golding’s works are based on the same philosophical premise---- the defect of human nature. These writings play the same question in a different appearance. Golding’s exploration in humanity starts in the 1950s, and the novel---- Lord of the Flies, is not only his debut but also his fame.
