Abstract Nowadays, with the global boom of science and technology, EST has been gradually known in the fields of translation and foreign language teaching. But as a matter of fact, severe scarcity of EST research exists among the separation of EST translation theory and its features. By using contrastive method and lots of examples, this paper attempts to discuss the translation strategies of English for science and technology, and the features of its vocabulary, syntax and discourse features. Hopefully it will be beneficial to the study of EST.

Features and Translating Strategies of English for Science and Technology
I． Introduction
With the development of today’s world of reform and opening up, Chinese and foreign science and technology exchange has been in developing fast. In the process of communication, translation plays an important role. In order to introduce the research of our country, a number of foreign languages are published as the main language of publication. Publishing periodicals of science and technology greatly contributes to China’s external publicity and communication, with the development of translation of EST becoming an important banch in the field of translation.
As a branch of the study of translation, the translation of English for Science and Technology came into being in the recent 20 years. And the translation of EST is receiving higher and higher recognition because of the development of science and technology and the increasing difficulties in the study of EST. Translating consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalents of the source language message, first in terms of meaning, secondly in terms of style. (Nida127). The specialty in its words processing makes the translation of EST special and unique compared with others. The translation of literary works pursues the unification of the form and the artistic conception while the translation of EST seeks combining the form with the logic. The very character of being highly professional, objective and precise of the translation of EST makes interpreters show great concern over faithfulness, regardless of the same importance of expressiveness and gracefulness. This paper will study the features of EST (in view of words, syntax and discourse) and the translation strategy of it.
II. An Overview of EST
2.1 The Definition of EST
Generally speaking, EST refers English used in scientific works, research papers, textbooks, technology reports and academic lectures of natural science and engineering. EST, today, has become a specialized field of modern English in many countries. A lot of scientists and scholars make great efforts to keep objective in transmitting the facts and natural phenomena, their characteristics, properties as well as processes, nevertheless, not only is EST clearly accurate and precise, concise and restricted but also it should consists of abundant mathematical equations, diagrams, formulas, tables and so on. On the other hand, scientists and scholars are also keen on some typical sentence patterns and technical or semi-technical terms which make EST distinct from the ordinary English to a large extent. In addition, a large amount of people intend to neglect the existence of EST which is revealed in the following simple formula they draw:EST consists of the general English Grammar and the technical words.
