Under the market economy system, movie is the most effective way to spread the culture.Referring to the effect movie has on cross-cultural communication, Chen haixia(2008) pointed that movie has the characteristics of large capacity, high quality and fast rhythm in the process of transmission of cultural information. Movie is becoming more and more important to the mutual integration and interaction of all ethnic groups and becomes the main medium and powerful force of cross-cultural communication. It can make two strange nation familiar, make two kinds of disparate culture close to and accept each other gradually.
Movie plays the role of cultural ambassador in cross-cultural communication. First of all, movie is vivid and visualized, which can make cross-cultural communication rapid and efficient. Interpersonal communication is usually done through language, but for people from different countries speaking different languages, language would be very difficult to transfer information and exchange ideal. But movie is one of the most cosmopolitan art languages, whose intuition and vitality can make the audience easily and happily to understand and accept it.Secondly, movie has strong vitality and charm. It is preserved in high-tech way, which not only make the large amount of cultural information colorful and fresh, but also can extend the function of propagate through the increasingly advanced technology.
In a word, compared with any other kinds of art, movie can propagate cultural information more freely, faster ,effictiently and flexibly with large quantity and high quality and accuracy. But it can also cause some cultural misreading because of its’ own boundedness.
2. In the 1940s (The Good Earth)
2.1 Themes and synopsis of the movie
This move was adapted from Pearl Buck’s novel The Good Earth,which was published in1931in the United States and Won the Pulitzer Prize the next year.In1938, Pearl Buck won the Nobel Prize for Literature for her "richness of Chinese peasant life and true epic descriptions as well as her autobiographical masterpiece,"(Nijun,2003)and the novel has been translated into more than 30 languages and published in various countries.
