 On the Translation of English News Headlines-- From the Perspective of Functional Equivalence

Abstract News headline is a significant part of news. It is the brief summary of the content of news event. An accurate, concise and elegant translation will quickly attract the readers, and lead them to keeping on what follows. To better translate English news headlines, translators should understand the similarities and differences between English news headlines and Chinese news headlines first. And then, they should master some translation strategies, of which American translator Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory provides an effective way for English news headlines translation. While applying functional equivalence theory to translate English news headlines, the use of equivalent words, the use of addition and adaption, and the flexible translation of rhetorical devices are three effective methods to get the ideal expressive effect.

论英语新闻标题的翻译——从功能对等视角

摘  要新闻标题是新闻的一个重要部分，是对新闻事件内容的简要概括。准确、简洁、有文采的翻译会迅速引起读者的注意`吹冰~文-论+文'网www.chuibin.com，吸引读者阅读接下来的内容。为了更好地翻译英文标题，译者首先需要了解英汉新闻标题之间的相似与不同之处。此外也需要掌握一定的翻译技巧，其中美国翻译家尤金·奈达的功能对等理论为此提供了一个有效的方法。在运用功能对等理论进行翻译的同时，对等词汇的使用，补充必要的信息或改编原标题，以及修辞手法的灵活翻译是达到理想效果的三种有效方法。
