Researches concerning this novel mainly focus on the question of racial discrimination and children’ moral education. It should be pointed out that it is also a representative work of symbolism. However, few researchers at home and abroad have done a complete study about the symbolic meaning of mockingbird. This thesis will focus on the symbolic meaning of mockingbird and its representation by its characters that Harper Lee writes in the novel. A detailed analysis of symbolic meanings of mockingbird will help readers to appreciate the work in a better way and make the content of the book and intention of the writer clearer to the readers.
