Miserable childhood and medic life had a profound influence on Maugham's thinking and view of the world. As a writer, Maugham is more relative conventional. Most of his works, such as Lisa of Lambeth, The Moon and Six Pence, and The Razor's Edge are realism novels. But it never means that Maugham prefer to follow a beaten track. Instead, he was always on the upgrade. Constantly, he penetrated his experiences, attitudes and thoughts of life into his works and characters. Maugham was a clever writer and had made great commercial success with high book sales, successful theater productions and a string of film adaptations. In 1954, he was made a Companion of Honor.
