1 IntroductionOliver Twist (1837) is one of the greatest novels of all times by Charles Dickens (1812—1870).Oliver Twist is set in London and tells the story of some miserable children. There is a maincharacter, Oliver Twist. Oliver is an orphan who is born in a workhouse and is then sold into anapprenticeship with an undertaker. He escapes from there and travels to London where he meets theArtful Dodger, a member of a gang of juvenile pickpockets, which is led by the elderly criminalFagin. In Oliver Twist, Oliver experiences various misfortunes. Oliver encountered all kinds ofsufferings and experienced countless poignancy. He almost fell into a wrong path. Finally, with thehelp of kind people, he found his family and got a happy ending.Besides Oliver, there are also many other children in Oliver Twister. Nancy is a brave girl who is amember of Fagin’s group. She gives her life for what she believes is right.
