Title On the Cultivation of English Majors’ Innovative Capability in the Teaching of Extensive Reading
—A New Perspective in Reform of Teaching English Majors at Nanjing University of Science and Technology
Abstract
Enhancing the cu1tivation of creative Eng1ish ta1ents is one of the distinguishing features of the new Teaching Syllabus for Eng1ish Majors in China. Therefore cultivating students’ innovation capability is a crucia1 challenge confronting Eng1ish teaching reforms at the tertiary level in the new century. Extensive Reading is a compulsory course in English major's basic learning, and cultivating the ability of innovation during the teaching is much more useful in improving students' reading skills, thereby to improve students' ability to use language. Based upon the theoretical thinking of innovation capability，this paper advances a new teaching approach for Extensive Reading at Nanjing University of Science and Technology(NJUST) , with the survey of the present teaching for English majors and theories of Constructivism．
The ultimate purpose of this paper is to make teachers and students have cognizance of the importance of innovation capability through the cultivation of innovation capability in Extensive Reading, to explore how to teach and learn more effectively, finally to improve the quality of teaching and students learning abilities.

1 Introduction
In the 2lst century which is full of competitions and challenges, the innovation capability is the embodiment of comprehensive strength of a country or a nation, and a country or a nation's innovation ability means the innovation ability of talents in the final analysis. Therefore, how to cultivate students' innovation capability has become a significant issue of our country's higher education reform.
