2。2 Hatred文献综述

As a pathetic abandoned child, Heathcliff had a not bad childhood because of the favor of Mr 。Earnshaw 。Kind, innocent and grateful is his nature。However, He was still looked down upon since his humble origins。 

“He could bear Hindley's blows without winking or shedding a tear, and Nelly’s pinches moved him only to draw in a breath and open his eyes, as if he had hurt himself by accident and nobody was to blame”。                    Mrs 。Earnshaw wanted to throw him out of the house。 She asked her husband why he brought the kid home。 They had have to afford a lot。They did not need another millstone 。Mrs 。Earnshaw did not like Heathcliff at all。 Her words are mean and her behavior are hurtful to a little boy。The most cruel is Catherine betrayed their love and marry with Linton。  It made him feel hateful towards this whole wretched world 。He vanished as silently as if it had simply been a f of people’s imagination。

    Heathcliff came back and decided to take revenge to the people who had hurt him 。The most important of all, to him, was the hatred , the brutal, inexorable hatred。 First, Heathcliff exploited Hindley’s bad habit such as alcohol and gamble to seize his property of Wuthering Heights 。Second ,He made Edgar Linton lose his pride and self-esteem in some shabby tricks 。Linton lose his sister , daughter and his Thrushcross Grange step by step 。Heathcliff married with Edgar’s sister 。 About Isabella ,Edgar Linton said that to summary: “she went of her own accord, she had a right to go if she pleased。 Trouble me no more about her。 Hereafter she is only my sister in name: not because I disown her, but she has disowned me。”(Emily,173)Heathcliff married with Isabella though he did not love her at all。 His marry rooted in a crazy desire for revenge 。 After Catherine finally died because of the self blame and illness ,Heathcliiff lost his purpose of revenge and became more crazy and aggressive 。 He began to hurt the second generation , Hareton Earnshaw , Cathrine Linton , Linton Heathcliff。  Fifteen years has passed, Hindley’s son Hareton , Heathcliff’s son Linton Heathcliff and Catherine’s daughter Cathrine Linton grew up。 Cindley’s son was bring up a innocent, crude and bad-mannered child。 Heathcliff never teaches him how to read or write，and never criticizes him for any bad habits and never leads him a simple step toward virtue。 He cheated little Catherine to go to the Wuthering Heights and put under house arrested and he forced her to marry with his own son who is near dying。 After little Heathcliff died, Heathcliff occupied the Thrushcross Grange。 All in all ,Heathcliff was delightful to witness Hindley degrading himself past redemption。Wuthering Heights had becomes a hell on earth, people seems to live in a frozen world。 Emotion among people drop to a freezing point。

3。1 The Death of Mr。 Earnshaw ---status change

    Heathcliff was unlucky because he was abandoned by his parents。 We did not know where did he come from 。 However, he was very lucky compared with others like him in that time, because he was adopted by Mr。 Earnshaw。 Mr。 Earnshaw loved him more than his own kids and he was always afraid of heathcliff being bullied by others。 And under the spoiled love of Mr。 Earnshaw, he was content and felt a sense of superiority。

Everything changed after Mr Earnshaw ‘s death。 Hindley did not allowed him to go on his education any more。 Heathcliff was not his brother any more but a menial servants。Once Heathcliff and Catherine escaped from the mess family and to wonder along the wild , he would be punish by Hindley。 Usually, a whipping could be his punishment。
