Amy’s father,John Tan,a Chinese-born Baptist minister, went to America for seeking a new life to avoid the cruel civil war in China。Her mother,Daisy,a wealthy women from Shanghai, she left her children and immigrated to America in 1949 to pursue the American dream。In The Joy Luck Club,Daisy is the model of Suyuan Woo,one of the mothers in the book。Amy had a happy life before her father and elder brother died of brain tumors。Since then,Amy’s mother changed herself and turned back to the original Chinese women。After then,Amy knew that she had three half-sisters in China。The fact adapted her novel into her famous book The Joy Luck Club。
