The book is an autobiographical type in my opinion。Amy’s experience is just like Jingmei’s。The book writes about the Chinese conflicts in America and shapes the distinctive Chinese female images。Amy describes the eight women’s inner worlds delicately and analyzes their dilemma when they are in America。Also,Amy describes the colliding between Chinese and American culture,and its influence on the Chinese-American women’s mind。

The book describes the four mothers who come from China and the time when they are young,they go through hard times when they suffer the unfair treatment in the old society。And the four daughters with the black eyes,yellow skin and the black hair,they are born in America and are taught by traditional American education。They develop the kind of American lifestyle。Different from their mothers in modes of thoughts and view of values,the daughters misunderstand what their mothers stick to and get along with the process of contradictions。As time goes on,when they begin to know what their mothers suffer from in China, they understand their parents。
