2。1 History of lyrics translation

The translation of English lyrics can be pided into five periods。 The first period began with the translation of the first English song March to Georgia, which was translated by American translator Ye Zhongleng in the late Qing Dynasty ( the early 20th century)，opening the history of English songs translation。 Meanwhile, a large number of similar songs crowded into our country and Sheng Gongxin introduced western group singing style to Chinese schools widely。 He lit the torch of Chinese music movement and created China's modern music education in school, so Li Shutong regarded him as “The First Person Who Opens Our country’s Music Education”。 After the May 4th Movement in 1919, western bands, missionaries and singers was increased in China, which accelerated the spread of English songs in China。

During second period, English songs translation was flourishing as never before between 1950s and 1960s。 Xue Fan, Deng Yinyi had made great achievements and no one could surpass up to now。 However, at that time because of the close sino-soviet relationship, Soviet Union songs were more popular than English songs。 

The third period was the tough time for English songs translation。 Due to the rise of the third world and the influence of the “the Great Cultural Revolution”, English songs translation had been in the period of silence。 文献综述

With the implementation of reform and opening up policy, English songs translation become prosperous again in the fourth period。 A large number of literary and art workers, such as the old generation of Xue Fan, Deng Yingyi, Zhou Feng and a new generation of Zhang Ning, He Xide, Luo Chuankai, Sheng Yin, did their best and made outstanding contributions to English songs translation。 

The fifth period started from the end of 1990s to the present, which was the awkward period of English songs translation。 Because of the great difficulties, high requirements and low remunerations, few young translators were willing to work for English lyrics translation。 However, a large number of netizens, also lovers of English lyrics translation, with a good command of English, become the main force of lyric translation, laying a firm foundation for the development of lyric translation。 (Xue 62)

2。2 Xue Fan’s contributions to lyrics translation

As is known to all, in all kinds of works of art, song (including foreign song) is the catchiest, easiest to understand, the most close to ordinary people’s life, and the most popular and widely accepted by the audience。 Xue Fan doesn’t simply translate foreign songs into Chinese lyrics, and also studied the song itself, which is neglected by other translators。 He edited and published various types of foreign anthologies and there’s a long or short description in the end of every song, introducing the song’s backgrounds, popularities, social influence and position in the history。 This is beneficial for us to appreciate and understand the work, helping us improve artistic accomplishment。 He was enlightened by Professor Qian Renkang, but Mr。 Qian’s research mainly focuses on large works such as symphony, opera and ballet (Guo 131), but Xue Fan inherited and carried forward the study in the field of songs。 Published in 2012, the book Search and Practice of Song Translation is China's first book on song translation theory。 

In the previous time, song translation worked in a disordered state, and the translators rarely communicate with each other about the evaluation standard coordinate system and conclusions from translation practice。 Based on long and splendid translation practice, Mr。Xue built up the basic theory framework for the song originally, created basic theory terms preliminarily, put forward a set of unique and feasible method and summarized our country song’s translation history for the first time。 For a long time, when talking about “song translation”, it is naturally for people to believe that the “song translation” belongs to “translation” regardless of the translators or ordinary people。 来*自~优|尔^论:文+网www.chuibin.com +QQ752018766*
