Abstract English are required for all Chinese students in college or university。 They have study English for years。 However, students in large numbers fail to be good in English, especially in communicating with others fluently。 One of the reasons is that they feel it difficult to remember numerous new English words。 Without enough vocabulary as the basis of a language, it’s impossible for people to express themselves and communicate with others efficiently。 So remembering words are indispensable to English learning。 In the study of learning and memory in cognitive psychology, information process theory are one of the most studied theories。 In order to help people learning English vocabulary more effectively, from the perspective of information processing, this thesis attempts to offer several useful and practical strategies in vocabulary learning based on related theoretical and empirical researches。79111

摘要对于多数中国大学生,英语是必修的第二语言,大多数人都有数年的英语学习经历,但很多学生学不好英语,不能利用英语进行熟练地沟通和交流。原因之一就是很多同学认为记住大量陌生单词很困难。词汇是语言这座大厦的砖瓦,只有具备一定词汇,人们才能有效地交流与沟通。因此英语的学习离不开对词汇的记忆。在第二语言习得中,学习、理解和掌握词汇是一个不可或缺的环节。在认知心理学对学习和记忆的研究中,信息加工理论是被研究得最多的理论之一。为了能让大家更有效率地学习英语词汇,本文拟从信息加工的视角,在其理论观点和相关实证研究的基础上,提出有效的切实可行的英语词汇学习方法。

1Introduction

The advancement of globalization put the intercultural communication into a more important place。 And language has undoubtedly played the most crucial role in successful communication and mutual learning。 English, as one of the most widely used languages in the world, is required for all the college students。 However, students in a large number fail to learn English well。 In large part it is because they feel difficult to remember so many words which is the basis in English learning。 In order to learn and remember English words effectively, scientific and systematic methods and tactics are needed。

In 1972, David Wilkins, a famous English linguistician, in a book he has proposed a classic exposition of the English vocabulary: without grammar one can only convey limited things while without vocabulary one can convey nothing。 There is no doubt that vocabulary has played a fundamental role in language learning。 The researches about vocabulary learning receive very few concerns until the 1960s。 (Liang Jie, 2014:183) Now on this field both the theoretical and empirical studies are increasing。 And various outstanding researches have sprung up。
