Because English and Chinese belong to different language families, there is a big difference in their writing structure。 Although the attributive clauses are very common in English, it is one of the structures that do not belong to Chinese。 Therefore, when we translate the complex sentence with the attributive clause into Chinese, we need to make appropriate adjustments with greater flexibility。 In the specific translation, we must make well sense of logical conception of the original text and make reasonable arrangement for the translation of word order。 What’s more, we will adopt different methods of translation according to its structure and meaning。

II。 Basic Concepts of the Attributive Clause

The Clause, a simple sentence after a noun or pronoun(antecedent)play the modified and attributive role, called attributive clause, which is in the main ingredients sentence as the attributive。 The modified word called antecedent。 Unlike the case of attributive word as attributive, it is usually only placed after the modified word (the antecedent)。 The relative words introduce the attributive clause, which is pided into relative pronouns and adverbs。 Relative pronouns, relative adverbs is put in front of the attributive clause

2。1  Antecedent

The antecedent is the noun and pronoun modified by the attributive clause and in front of introducer of the attributive clause。 It is usually regarded as a certain ingredients。 Always put behind the attributive modifying it, the antecedent is not the same as the common adjective modify noun and pronoun in front of the noun。 For example:

    (1) This is the book which I am looking for。论文网

The phrase “the book” in the sentence is the antecedent。the。 The relative pronoun

“which” is the introducer。

(2) He is Mr。Robertson who comes from England。

The name “Mr。Robertson” is the antecedent。 The relative pronoun “who” is the introducer。

     (3) Was that a singer that sang xiyangyang ?

The phrase “the singer” is the antecedent。 The relative pronoun “that” is the introducer。

2。2 Relative Terms

2。2。1 Relative Pronouns Introduce Attributive Clause

Replaced by relative pronoun, the antecedent is the noun or pronoun of person or object, which is in the sentence as subject in the attributive clause, the predicate verb must agree with the antecedent in person and number

    (1) who, whom, that

These words instead of human antecedent noun or pronoun is in the clause of the role as follows

Is he the man who/that wants to see you?

他就是想见你的人吗?(who/that as subject in the clause)

He is the man whom/ that I saw yesterday

他就是我昨天见的那个人。(whom/that as object in the clause)

   (2) Whose

The relative pronoun “Whose” is used for people or object,(just as attributive ,but for object, it can be interchanged with the structure “of which”)。  For example:

They rushed over to help the man whose car had broken down。

   那人车坏了,大家都跑过去帮忙

Please pass me the book whose(of which) cover is green

   请递给我那本绿皮书。

   (3) Which, that

The antecedent replaced by them is the object of noun and pronoun。 It can be used for subject, object and so on。 For example:

A prosperity which /that had never been seen before appears in the countryside
