6.  Assembly Assembly of  the load-bearing structure was started simultaneously on  both sides of  the Ijssel. Span by span the sections of  both main girders were placed and the cross girders in between were welded to  them. To place the first sections, temporary supports were necessary. After welding the bridge  spans,  the  segments of  the  footpath were consecutively assembled and welded together amongst each other and  to the main load-bearing structure. The steel structure on the side of  Hattem was moved by  IOOmm from the abutment to make room for the later following strand  jacking of  the central arch. After reaching the abutment, the arch's parts were mounted onto the two neighbouring spans of  the Ijssel with projections into the river span. Secured from floodwater,  the remaining  135m-long central arch section was mounted onto 2.5m-high temporary supports at a preassembly area at Zwolle. Much attention during design and fabrication was given to the exact  fit between parts to be floated into position and preassembled areas on the  forelands.  In contrast to most of  the common bridges, the mas-sive cross sections with sheet thicknesses of  up to 80mm excluded corrections after strand jacking. After completion, the around 2,40Ot-heavy part to be floated into position was brought onto pontoons by modular transporters over a  ramp erected solely for this purpose;  it was then floated into the bridge's axis and lifted to its final position by strand  jacks.
