A Comparison of Don Juan Image between Moliere and Byron
Abstract: Don Juan’s image as an international literary matrix, which formed the image of Dong Juan series written repeatedly by a great number of writers in more than 400 years, including Moliere and Byron. They shaped two landmark images in this area and there is obvious difference between them. The one of Moliere highlights the character's psychology, in which the personality of the character becomes more specific and has certain modern color. While the one of Byron is no longer the reproduction and variant of traditional images, embodied in the autobiographical tendency of the author. the images of Don Juan embody in author’s distinctive life experience, life faith, and art approach meanwhile reflect the satire of reality and pursuit of freedom, express the spirit of reality and consciousness of moral criticism.
