摘要自从我国加入WTO以来,对高质量英语人才的需求也与日俱增。高中英语教师担负着培养高素质英语人才和国际视野人才的重任。高中英语教师的专业发展素质的提高更是社会、学校和学生的需要。本文主要通过问卷,访谈和课堂观察等形式,对河南地区11个市177位高中英语教师进行了抽样调查,结果显示,教师专业发展中主要存在以下几个问题:(1)负担重,收入低,缺少学习时间及行政支持。(2)缺少专业发展意识。(3)应试教育的残余影响仍然存在。(4)教师继续受教育机会少。本文通过具体分析调查数据,对当前河南省高中英语教师的专业发展提出了一些可行性建议:(1)坚持反思性教学;(2)制定个人规划,提高工作效率。目的在于为教师的专业化提供一个方向,最终提高他们的英语专业化水平发展。21901

Abstract
After China’s entry into WTO, the demands for competent people in using English have been growing. English teachers of senior middle school assume the responsibility of cultivating high quality English professionals. English teachers’ professional development is the society, school and students’ requirements. The research aims to provide a reasonable direction for English teachers, which will eventually improve their professional development. It was undertaken to 177 senior high school teachers from 11 cities or counties in Henan province through questionnaires, interviews and classroom observations. The statistics show that the main problems with the professional development of senior high schools in Henan province are: (1) Heavy workload, low income; (2) Weak awareness for professional development; (3) Exam-oriented school education; (4) Few opportunities for in-service teacher education. Based on the detail analysis of the data collected, the author tries to propose some suggestions to solve that. Those senior high school English teachers are supposed to: (1) become reflective practitioners; (2) make plans to improve working efficiency and so on.

I. Introduction

With the rapid social and economic development, educational reforms have been going on for years. Most people of the whole world realize that English teachers’ quality plays a crucial part in English teaching and learning. Problems of teachers’ professional development have been greatly concerned in almost every country. Topic about teacher professional development has quickly become a major talking point in the education circles at home and abroad. Now English teachers in various countries are facing greater challenges and pursuing their own development to meet the needs of the students and the society.
Teachers’ professional development has become one of the central themes of contemporary education reform, the implementation of the new curriculum reform puts forward new requirements to teachers, teachers' professional development is a complex and difficult process. Through own efforts and self development, teachers will became outstanding at an early date, and they also can promote English teachers' professional development in Yuzhou city, Henan Province.
