Abstract Mansfield Park is one of the important later works of Jane Austen, who was a famous British writer in the early 19th Century. The novel portrays a sensible, self-respectful and self-reliant heroine Fanny. Due to her noble character, she won the respect of Sir Thomas and love of Edmund, who she finally got married to. This paper firstly analyzes the female images in Mansfield Park and then interprets female consciousness (self-reliance, resistance against sexual discrimination and pursuit of self-value realization) embodied in the heroine of this novel, so as to help explore the theme connotations of this novel and its enlightenments on contemporary women.

I. Introduction
Feminism is typically associated with particular historical moments when a coalition of women succeeds in bringing issues of gender equality, sexual oppression, and sex discrimination into the public arena. The most far-reaching social development of modern times is the revolt of women against sexual servitude. It encompasses the struggles of women to secure their economic and political agency. Jane Austen was one of the great realistic novelists in the early 19th century. Mansfield Park was one of her six novels. This paper will make a specific analysis of female consciousness embodied in the heroine of Mansfield Park so as to make the novel better understood and bring some inspirations to contemporary women.
Experts and scholars at home have done some researches on Mansfield Park from different perspectives. ZhangYing(58) discussed Austen’s view on female consciousness in the framework of Functionalism. She pointed out that Austen’s literary idea still has realistic significance in contemporary society. Song Xiaohan(86) thought that the author sent out the voice of feminism through the characterization of Fanny to express her deep suspiciousness of the British social prejudice against women. Fu Guixiang(37) analyzed the female consciousness in this novel and concluded that the new imagine of women has brought some inspirations to us. However, these researches are not deep-going enough, which should be further explored.
This paper is pided into five chapters. The first chapter makes a brief introduction to the background of the study and the framework of the paper. The second chapter introduces the main contents of the novel Mansfield Park. The third chapter analyzes the female images of this novel. The fourth chapter explores the female consciousness embodied in the heroine of this novel. The fifth chapter is a conclusion of the whole paper.
