摘 要随着外语教学的发展,越来越多的学者开始关注词汇教学这一领域。但学生经常死记硬背或者用重复的方法记单词,而并不知道单词的用法。老师也忽视了单词所传达的语境信息及其在特定语境中的意义。本文主要在语境理论的基础上讨论语境在中学词汇教学中的应用。作者以周口市第二十二初级中学的两个班级作为实验对象, 通过实验对比分析方法研究如何利用语境理论帮助学生记忆单词,并提高他们学习英语的兴趣。实验后,作者得出以下结论:通过语境教授单词能激发学生学习单词的兴趣,帮助学生在语境中理解并记忆单词,提高学生灵活运用单词的能力,并最终提高学生英语学习能力。希望这篇论文对于中学英语词汇的教与学有一定的帮助。37064

Abstract   With the development of foreign language teaching, more and more researchers pay their attention to the vocabulary teaching. However, students usually learn the new words through the method of rote or repetition without knowing how to use the vocabulary properly. The teacher also neglect the context where the words meaning comes and the context meaning of vocabulary. This paper mainly discusses the application of context to vocabulary teaching in middle school on the basis of the theory of context. Taking the two classes of Zhoukou 22 Middle school as subjects, the author analyzed experimental method how to use context theory to help students memorize words, and improve their interest in learning English. After the experiment, the following conclusions are drawn: teaching vocabulary in context can motivate the students, help students remember and understand words, improve their ability of using words and then enhance their English learning competence overall. Hopefully, this paper will be beneficial for the English vocabulary teaching and learning in middle school.

Ⅰ. Introduction

    As is known to all, vocabulary teaching is an essential part of foreign language teaching. Gass said that learning a second language means learning its vocabulary(97). So we come to conclusion that vocabulary plays an important role in human communication and language learning process. For a language learner, even you have mastered decent pronunciation, and perfect grammar, without the enough amount of vocabulary, you can say nothing, not to mention communicating with others. If you want to learn a foreign language, you must master enough vocabulary.
    At present, vocabulary teaching has not been paid enough attention in China’s middle school. Teachers always emphasize that as a middle school student, it is necessary to master a foreign language, so the students need to practice listening, speaking, reading and writing every day. They seem to forget that vocabulary is the foundation of language learning. As Wang Rongpei said, “The biggest difficulty in a foreign language learning is how students learn and master the vocabulary”(41). To improve the ability of students in memorizing vocabulary, English vocabulary teaching is being changed day by day. Teachers gradually realized the importance of context in vocabulary teaching.
