Just as readers feel keener about the bad news, the bad sports news usually attracts more attention from the sports fans, so that’s called unusualness of the sports news. News is obvious made to appeal the readers, therefore, it is out of the question that interest is another characteristic of sports news.
However, when abiding by the principles of news and reflecting the real sports activities in an objective way just as the general sports news do, meanwhile, as a specific style of news writing, sports news boasts its distinctive features besides the general characteristics that all types of news have. First, sports news bases on the abundant materials, as there are numerous sports events happening around the world day and night and countless sports news edited and published on different newspapers, on television and on the Internet. Secondly, the audience of sports news from all walks of life, regardless of their difference in nationality, gender, race, religion and social status. Last but not least, given the nature of sports news, a qualified sports journalist has to be highly professional and news-conscious. As a result of the fierce competition in the reporting of sports news, he must have erudite knowledge about sports, therefore he may under a lot of pressure.

The rapidly flourishing technology provides a large number of modes of transmission, as a result, people will be able to make much more contact with all kinds of news which of course include sports news. Sports news firstly and officially appears on newspaper, which is a very traditional mode of transmission. Later, sports news are spread out by radio, then television becomes a very powerful media of transmission and it still occupies a major role in today’s news world. At the present, the Internet may become the most used media to spread news and share information, because sports news is so easily gained on the Internet just with a few “clicks”. With so many ways of transmission, therefore, types of sports news coverage must be getting into a much better situation, which will inevitably promote the intercommunication of sports news and different culture between different countries.
