1.2 Structure of the Thesis
Chapter one begins with the introduction which talks about the research objective and method, and then introduces the structure of the paper.
Chapter two is the review of English Idioms. The paper illustrates briefly the definitions and classifications of idioms. At the same time, the paper also compares the traditional and cognitive views of idioms.
Chapter three is about the conceptual metaphor. In this chapter, two questions are supposed to make clear, that is, what is conceptual metaphor, and what is the classification of conceptual metaphor.
Chapter four is the key part of this paper. Based on the theory mentioned in chapter three, this chapter will combine English idioms and metaphor together to clearly explain the three conceptual metaphors in idioms. Several examples will also be discussed.
