摘要中国的《梁山伯与祝英台》和英国的《罗密欧与朱丽叶》虽然都是以男女主人公双双殉情为结局的爱情悲剧，但是在故事发展的过程中却反映出了不同的文化特色。本文通过对比分析这两个典型的故事传说，对中英文化在价值观，思维模式和家庭伦理方面存在的差异进行初步归纳，并进一步探讨了导致这些差异的经济制度因素，文化背景因素,地理环境因素，以及宗教信仰等因素，以帮助人们更好的理解中英文化。49820

Abstract  Both the Chinese legend Butterfly Loves and the British story Romeo and Juliet are tragic love stories ending with the death of the leading chacters. But in the process of development of the two stories, their plots reflect different cultural features. The paper makes a comparative analysis of the two stories to extract the cultural distinctions revealed in values, thought patterns, and family ethnics. And the paper further explores the reasons causing cultural differences from the perspective of economic systems, cultural backgrounds, geographical environments and ideological rules. Hopefully that the study will help people to understand the cultures between China and Britain well.

On the Cultural Distinctions Between China and Britain From the Comparison of Butterfly Lovers and Romeo and Juliet

I. Introduction 

    With the development of economy and the promotion of the international status, the trade between China and other countries from all over the world becomes more and more frequent. In the process of cross-cultural communication, it is an inevitable phenomenon that the distinction will exist for a long time.

    The cultural distinction hinders the cultural communication to a large extent and makes people feel uncomfortable and awkward. It is vital for people to understand the differences between cultures.

Based on the two stories, Butterfly lovers and Romeo and Juliet, the paper will discuss the differences of culture in values, family ethnics and thought patterns, and analyze the reasons of causing the distinction.

The story of Butterfly Lovers, one of the four most famous folk tales in China, is called “Romeo and Juliet” in the east. The legend of the Butterfly Lovers mainly reflects the free yearning of ancient people for a better life and reveals the pursuit of marriage with the tinge of freedom, which can be deemed as the accumulation of positive parts in folk culture. Because of its vividness and glamour, especially its symbolized meaning of butterflies. This story has been enduring popularity among folks and masses of people.
