Abstract Comparatively speaking, people are more familiar with IQ than EQ. IQ is the short form for Intelligence Quotient, which is traditionally regarded as the key to success. While laying great emphasis on the development of IQ, people have ignored a crucial factor, which should have enjoyed a far more significant status than it actually does at present. This crucial factor is EQ, namely Emotion Quotient. EQ is also sometimes referred to as EI, namely Emotional Intelligence. It is a concept proposed by psychologists, which mainly refers to people’s quality in mood, emotion, will, perseverance, tolerance of setbacks and so on. In the psychological field, there is a widespread consensus that 20% of one person’ success depends on his or her intelligence, while 80% depends on non-intellectual factors, among which the most important one is EQ. EQ sometimes plays an even more important role than IQ does. This paper studies the influence of EQ on the development of college students’ English Skills.

1 Introduction
1.1 Definition of EQ
IQ is the short form for Intelligence Quotient, which is traditionally regarded as the key to success. For a long time, IQ is widely taken as the only factor leading to brilliant achievements. It is considered that the higher the IQ, the greater achievement people are due to have. On the other hand, non-intelligence factors are often seen as a kind of insignificant complement and therefore are usually ignored by people. Especially under the system of College Entrance Examination, score has somehow got an overwhelmingly decisive power in terms of students’ future development. No wonder the traditional intelligence factors gradually evolve into a prevalent criterion for judging talent.
