James Truslow Adams was a historian who has used “American Dream” for the first time in his published book The Epic of America in 1931。In his book, American dream is a place where you have ability; you can have a better life。 As he said：”This is a society and everyone can develop their dreams fully including Rich dream and Love dream。”(Malcolm 262)In his paper we can know that the American dream, which originated in Europe in nineteenth Century, it is a kind of religious belief。 It has been in the hearts of the American when it is mature。 He proposed that the American dream in The Great Gatsby made European find their dreams they have lost before。 Through his research, early American dream let people believe that if you are work hard enough, you can be successful, so that this society is equal, through their own efforts to obtain material success, the success of the spirit also followed it。
